Two new COVID-related deaths reported in region Tuesday

Region of Waterloo Public Health is confirming two new COVID-related deaths -- a woman who was in her 80s and a man who was in his 90s. It raises the local death toll to 419.

There were also 54 new COVID-19 cases over the past four days, putting the overall total at 46,453. The resolved case rate is 98.7 per cent.

Hospitalizations are down by 11 to 20. Five patients are in intensive care with COVID.

The active caseload is 152.

In terms of variants of concern, the region's dashboard shows 152 of those cases (96.8 per cent) have been linked to the Omicron variant since April 24.

86.2 per cent of residents five and over in Waterloo Region are now fully vaccinated. Over 1.34 million doses have been administered to local residents, including over 301,000 third doses. 51.6 per cent of those 12 and over have received a third dose.

54.1 per cent of children between 5 and 11 have received at least one dose. 40.8 are fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the province reported 590 new cases Tuesday.
