LETTER: Shame if mall roller rink taken over by go-karts

Reader asks: 'How much exercise does one get go-karting?'

CambridgeToday received the following letter to the editor from reader Miriam Weber about the rollerskating rink at the Cambridge Centre.

I have enjoyed the rollerskating events over the last few months at the Cambridge mall run by SUSO Skate Co.

I have seen children and adults watching through the glass and then renting roller skates to try it.

I know SUSO received complaints from some of the stores near the rink stating the music was too loud. I hope these stores realize that us skaters also shopped in their stores and spent money in the food court. Had we not been rollerskating, we would not have been spending any money at the mall.

It is sad to hear that the possibility of this nice skating surface – run by a great company with friendly staff – would be used for go-karting. How much exercise does one get go-karting?

This rink in the mall has always been used as a rink and should stay as a rink. Perhaps if SUSO doesn't want to stay, another company like Retro Rollers could take over.

With ice going in in all the arenas over the winter, it leaves no place for roller skaters to skate.

The mall rink is an ideal setup. It would be a shame if it is used for go-karts.
