Cambridge's Sarah Gardiner is getting ready to open her new salon on Hespeler Road.

AM Hair and Beauty, a new salon coming to Hespeler Road, began as a dream and got off the ground thanks to a leap of faith from owner Sarah Gardiner.

Gardiner’s passion for hair and beauty dates back to 2008 when she competed in the Skills Canada Competition in the hairstyling category. After coming first in the regionals, she went on to finish seventh of 32 in all of Ontario.

“It started in high school with cosmetology class,” said Gardiner, who was born and raised in Cambridge and currently resides in Galt.

“It was a hobby but my hair teacher at the time saw the passion in me and she kept pushing me to keep going.”

After taking some time off after high school, Gardiner decided to study colour theory and eventually began working at UBU Hair on Franklin Blvd.

From there she moved to a different salon, taking pieces of advice and different techniques from her colleagues.

“I was learning from other hair dressers who would teach me more advanced haircutting,” Gardiner said.

“I ended up working at a different salon that sort of gave me the idea to start my own business.”

Opening her own salon had been on her mind for a while. It was a discussion Gardiner and her husband had on occasion but it was always put off for one reason or another.

With two young daughters, she decided 2023 would be the year.

“Now that my daughters are four and three I felt like it was a good time,” she said.

“I’m doing this for my family and my kids so they can have a better future."

AM Hair and Beauty will offer much more than just a haircut. A Kevin Murphy style salon, Gardiner describes the experience as upscale yet affordable.

In order to make her business stand out among the rest, clients will be able to enjoy mimosas, wine and beer, along with a variety of coffees, cappuccinos and specialty beverages. She’s also elevated the hair washing experience with massage chairs to go with scalp and foot massagers.

As a mother she knows personal needs often go on the back burner but she wants to change that, even for just a little while.

“I’m a mom and life is busy,” Gardiner said.

“We’re always on the go so I wanted to have a space for extensive clientele that are busy. I want a space for people to relax and enjoy their self care time.”

AM Hair and Beauty is located at 450 Hespeler Road and will be opening in the coming weeks.
