Members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service, along with local Special Olympic athletes, are gearing up for the 36th annual Law Enforcement Torch Run this morning.

Runners and walkers will travel several different routes throughout Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge to help raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics Ontario. Over 30km will be travelled by participants throughout the day.

Participants are expected to depart South Division headquarters on Hespeler Road at 10:40 a.m. and head toward Maple Grove Road.

It is expected some motorists may experience brief delays as police escort the participants through major intersections.

Waterloo Regional Police would like to thank the community in advance for their patience and cooperation during this fundraising event.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest fundraiser for Special Olympics worldwide and we are very grateful to the community and our partner agencies for their support.

By working together, we can help enrich the lives of athletes with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for them to participate in their chosen sport and to showcase their talents.
