Porchlight Counselling and Addiction Services (Porchlight) will host its second annual Cambridge Moves for Mental Health event on April 27th to raise funds and awareness for affordable and accessible mental health services in Cambridge & North Dumfries.

Cambridge Moves for Mental Health is an accessible event modelled on a “walk-a-thon”, which encourages members of the community to fight the stigma around mental health, and raise funds for mental health services, by asking people they know to sponsor them as they complete a 2.5km or 5km route in support of Porchlight Counselling and Addiction Services.

The event will take place on Saturday, April 27th, from 11am to 1:30pm, starting and finishing in front of Cambridge City Hall (50 Dickson St., Cambridge). Participants can find registration details at www.cm4mh.ca.

Porchlight is a registered charity which has been providing affordable & accessible mental health services in Cambridge and North Dumfries since 1940. Among its many programs, it offers subsidized counselling services with mental health professionals, and operates Cambridge’s only two sober living homes which provide a place where those who have completed addiction treatment can live within their community as they rebuild their lives.

Said Cameron Dearlove, Executive Director of Porchlight Counselling and Addiction Services, “Counselling and addiction services are needed more than ever in our Region, and in Cambridge and North Dumfries in particular – which are historically underserved. Porchlight could not provide the services it does without the incredible and generous support of our community.” Dearlove went on, “Cambridge Moves for Mental Health is an amazing, fun, chance to connect and support a great cause."

The event hopes to raise $25,000 to support mental health services and will feature local dignitaries and family-friendly entertainment. All participants will receive a complementary lunch.
