Cambridge MPP Belinda Karahalios has signed her name to a petition calling for the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing to revoke a minister's zoning order (MZO) for the controversial Blair mega warehouse project.

The petition says the City of Cambridge has failed to meet its obligations to complete public consultation and calls for the MZO to be revoked.

Karahalios signed the 162-name petition into effect after reading its contents to fellow MPPs at Queen's Park on Monday where she said she was impressed by how quickly residents of Blair were able to gather names for the petition after reaching out to her the day before.

The petition calls on minister Steve Clark to rescind the MZO that was endorsed by the City of Cambridge last year to allow the Broccolini Real Estate Group to develop a 1.3-million sq-ft "fulfillment centre" in the Blair Heritage Conservation District.

The proposal recently failed to get approval from the city's Municipal Heritage Advisory Committee after more than 30 delegations appeared at a hearing to oppose the project.

Last November, Clark asked the city to complete its due diligence before requesting the MZO, and said he would revoke it unless the City of Cambridge demonstrated meaningful public consultation.

The province now has 24 days to file a response with the Clerk of the House and provide a copy of the response to Karahalios.
