Canada Day committee wants to showcase local history for city's 50th

Cambridge Canada Day is looking for someone to build a historical showcase for the city's 50th anniversary
2022 0101 Canada Day Parade BL 4
Saying thanks to all frontline workers at the Cambridge Canada Day Parade.

With centuries old buildings, a Canadian heritage river and dozens of pioneers in business and industry who were integral to the history of Waterloo region and beyond, Cambridge has a lot to celebrate.

This Canada Day coincides with the city's 50th anniversary and event organizers are looking to show off all the amazing things that have happened in the city over the past 50 years.

Cambridge Canada Day is looking for someone to spearhead a project to create and compile interesting historical facts about the city to celebrate the half century mark.

"We are taking out the car show, so we'll have an entire area dedicated to this showcase," said Ryan Marenger, Cambridge Canada Day committee chair. "We want whoever to take on the role to be able to bring their vision of this display to life."

The display can be photos, memorabilia or whatever the project lead would like to see, said Marenger.

Support and funding for the project will be provided by the Canada Day organizer. This project will detail the significant nostalgic past that Cambridge residents love so much.

From the roller skating at the Preston Aud in the 70s to the factories that drove the industry throughout the city, Cambridge is teeming with history and now Cambridge Canada Day needs someone to sort through it all and showcase the best the city has to offer.

With the event only a few months away, they are still looking for volunteers and float submissions for the parade. The event traditionally takes place at Riverside park and is complete with a fishing derby, food trucks, Canadian flags in every direction and of course fireworks.

If anyone is interested in being the curator for this project please email Marenger or visit their website for more info.
