Blessed be! The fifth season of The Handmaid’s Tale has been released.

The City of Cambridge plays a huge role in the series and is one of the primary backdrops for the fictional Republic of Gilead.

The production crew, "Ruby Road", for the critically acclaimed award-winning series, returned to Cambridge in the spring to film scenes for the much anticipated release of Season 5, the first two episodes of which were released Sept. 14.

And The Handmaid's Tale has also just been renewed for a sixth season, which will be its last, on Hulu.

Adapted from Canadian Margaret Atwood's 1985 novel, The Handmaid's Tale first premiered on Hulu in 2017.

Addressing themes of misogyny, patriarchy, reproductive rights and women's bodily autonomy, the series has won numerous awards including 15 Emmy awards and has made history as the first streaming title to win in the Outstanding Drama Series category.

No synopsis or potential release date has been set,but cast members did recently share the news on social media including Elisabeth Moss, Yvonne Strahovski, Max Minghella, Bradley Whitford, Samira Wiley, Ann Dowd, and Sam Jaeger, who said we'll have to “wait and see” what The Handmaid’s Tale will hold in the final chapter and thanked fans for all of their support.

Filming has taken place at various location across Cambridge including the Main Street Bridge, Queens Square, Historic City Hall, Dickson Street, Mill Race at the Grand River and the Cambridge Farmer’s Market.

You can catch The Handmaid’s Tale on various streaming services including the CTV Drama channel and Crave.
