Catholic board trustees presented with $361.4M budget

The Waterloo Catholic District School Board administration presented a $361.4 million balanced budget for the 2023-2024 school year to the board of trustees at a meeting on Monday evening.

A total of $338.5 million is allotted for operating costs and an additional $22.8 million for capital.

The operating portion of the budget represents a $26.6 million increase from 2022-2023, with capital increasing $1.1 million from a year ago.

The presented budget represents an overall increase of $27.7 million from last year.

Breaking down the operating budget further, $233.4 million is assigned to learning services, $43.2 million for special education, $29.2 million for school operations and maintenance, $10.9 million for adult and continuing education, $9.5 million for transportation and $12.1 million for board administration.

The budget includes provisions for improving math scores, helping students who struggle to read, programs to support greater graduation rates, technology for Grade 9 students, supports for Indigenous students, mental health programs and healthy and clean facilities.

The WCDSB operates 48 schools and five adult education facilities serving more than 40,000 elementary, secondary and continuing education students in Waterloo region.

The budget vote is scheduled for June 12 at 6 p.m.
