Geese take over the ball diamond at Riverside Park.

The freshly groomed ball diamond at Riverside Park may look like it's ready to host a game, but the City of Cambridge is asking residents to stay off its sports fields until they officially open May 5.

The city says it's important to allow the fields to fully dry out and new grass shoots to grow to avoid damage that could delay the seasons.

Staff is also still in the midst of repairing divots and holes that could injure players.
