Eligible voters for the Waterloo Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) Trustee Election now have more time to cast their vote.

Due to delays in postal delivery of voter information letters, the City of Cambridge is extending the voting deadline to Friday, November 25 at 4:30 p.m.

The City of Cambridge says this will provide more time for voters to cast their online ballot for the election of WCDSB Trustees to ensure eligible voters have access to this important election.

This follows the City’s recent launch into a third-party review in response to an error made in the WCDSB trustee election, last month.

The election, held on Oct. 24, had been suspended after the City of Cambridge declared "an emergency under the Elections Act" to temporarily postpone voting for Catholic board trustees after two candidates were left off the ballot.

Approximately 1,700 ballots had been cast during the municipal election, before the emergency declaration. Those votes have now been voided.

According to the City of Cambridge, the independent review will help assess how to approach things going forward. A report will be prepared once the review has been completed.

Internet voting is available 24/7. Voters that support the WCDSB are encouraged to cast their ballot via internet voting before November 25 at 4:30 p.m. by visiting Cambridge.ca/elections. Voter information letters include details on how to vote.

The City of Cambridge also wants to remind residents that they can still vote without a voter information letter by bringing an eligible piece of Government ID and visiting staff in-person until Nov. 25 at 4:30 p.m. at Cambridge City Hall during regular 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. business hours.

Voters who do not have access to the internet are encouraged to call the election line at 519-740-4680 ext. 4079 to request at-home voting.

Although votes from North Dumfries are counted with Cambridge, their ballots were not affected by this mistake and their votes will be sealed and combined with Cambridge's when the election is completed.

In a press release, the says it would like to thank the candidates and the school board for their continued patience and support as it completes the WCDSB Trustee election.

The results will be compiled for Cambridge and North Dumfries and released after the close of voting at 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 25 at: Cambridge.ca/elections

The inaugural WCDSB board meeting is scheduled for Nov. 28.
