The City of Cambridge is developing a Cemetery Master Plan to help guide the future development, operation, and maintenance of Cambridge cemeteries and is inviting input from the community.
“The City’s cemetery spaces are an important part of our community, they provide not only a place for those who have lost a loved one to grieve, reflect and gain comfort and connection, but are a historical resource, a reminder of our past, and they are a place for reflection and quiet contemplation,” Mayor Jan Liggett said in a news release.
“Our hope is that they continue to provide a serene environment now and in the future for our community as it continues to grow and change.”
The plan will help ensure the long-term sustainability of cemetery services in the city over the next 25 years, the City said.
It will provide guidance to ensure the city’s cemeteries continue to meet the needs of the community and that services are responsive to the changing needs of residents including how services are delivered and the scope of services offered.
The Cemetery Master Plan survey is available on Engage Cambridge and residents have the opportunity to participate until May 19.
Survey results will be facilitated by project partner LEE+Associates, which specializes in planning, research, design and policy development.
