Both the City of Cambridge and the Waterloo Region District School Board are shutting off for an hour tonight in symbolic support of Earth Hour.

The city will be turning off their Cambridge sign at city hall and are encouraging others to cut off the lights in the evening.

Even though schools will be closed, the WRDSB is recommending schools use the upcoming week to shut down all power for an hour or somehow link curriculum in a meaningful way.

"We encourage everyone to do the same and take responsibility to reverse climate change," said the school board via Tweet.

According to Statistics Canada, millions of people will be switching off their power to symbolize their ongoing commitment to preserving the planet.
