The ConnectMyHealth portal is now available to patients of Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

A new online portal is giving Cambridge residents more control when it comes to monitoring their health.

ConnectMyHealth is a digital tool that allows patients to track records like lab results, some clinical reports and upcoming visits.

The Cambridge North Dumfries Ontario Health Team initiative aims to create a positive healthcare experience, including within the Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

"This allows patients to be more involved and informed throughout their healthcare journeys," Havva Kemal, communications coordinator for the Cambridge North Dumfries Ontario Health Team, said.

"It was very important for Cambridge Memorial Hospital to be involved with ConnectMyHealth as it has several departments and programs where patients find it very beneficial to frequently monitor their health records in order to make better decisions regarding their healthcare and lifestyle choices."

Designed as a free web-based tool, there is no app to download and once a profile is created it can be accessed from any computer or mobile device within Canada.

Patients also have the ability to subscribe to be notified when new results are available to view.

Additional features from community-based laboratories and radiology clinics, along with being able share information with family members using the portal is expected to be incorporated in the near future.

Stephan Beckhoff, manager of public affairs and communications for CMH, said he's excited about this new option and believes it'll empower patients with their care.

So far, Kemal said the response has been strong, something that should only increase as more education is done about the benefits.

"From the feedback we have received, most patients have been quick on the uptake as the ConnectMyHealth website offers simple, step-by-step directions on how to register," Kemal said.

"The CNDOHT is supporting the implementation of ConnectMyHealth locally to support our vision of connected and integrated services."

Residents must be 16 years of age, have a valid health card and acceptable forms of identification to register.
