COVID hospitalizations in region down by five to 46

The number of people in local hospitals with COVID-19 has improved again.

There are 46 in total, five fewer than what was reported on the region's summary dashboard on Friday. Six patients are in intensive care, an increase of one.

Health officials also reported 124 new COVID cases from over the weekend, raising the local total to 45,752. The resolved case rate is 97.6 per cent.

No new deaths were reported. The local death toll is 412.

The active caseload is down to 535.

In terms of variants of concern, the region's dashboard shows 505 of those cases (98.2 per cent) have been linked to the Omicron variant since April 3.

86.1 per cent of residents five and over in Waterloo Region are now fully vaccinated. Over 1.33 million doses have been administered to local residents, including over 299,000 third doses. 51.4 per cent of those 12 and over have received a third dose.

54.5 per cent of children between 5 and 11 have received at least one dose. 40.6 are fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the province reported 1,206 new cases Monday.
