Cambridge Memorial Hospital says it experienced a disruption in the reprocessing of its operating room instruments today, resulting in the cancellation of 17 patient surgeries.

"We are working to identify and rectify the root cause," says a press release.

The hospital has arranged for external reprocessing vendor to reduce further disruptions to its surgical services and doesn't anticipate any further cancellations.

The hospital says it is working to prioritize and reschedule the 17 patients who were impacted by this disruption.

“Our focus on patient safety must never be compromised” said Stephanie Pearsall, vice president clinical services and chief nursing executive Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

“To that end we apologize for the significant inconvenience we caused patients today and will work with the surgeons’ offices to reschedule their care in a timely manner,” added Pearsall.
