UPDATED Early morning fire on Langs Drive sends one person to hospital

A fire on Langs Drive has sent at least one person to hospital and displaced neighbours of the townhouse

An early morning fire on Langs Drive has sent one person to hospital and displaced at least two families.

According to eyewitnesses, the blaze started around 7 a.m. in a townhouse on Langs Drive next to the Fairview Mennonite Retirement Home.

The Kelly family lives next door to the affected unit and was awoken just before 7 a.m. as a transport truck driver honked his horn trying to wake up nearby residents.

"My daughter woke me up, like 'mom the house is on fire," said the daughter, who didn't want to provide her first name. "The truck was honking his horn and we looked out the window and saw all the smoke."

Kelly noted the flames were shooting out of the second story window high into the sky.

"A man was trying to get people out of the building and we heard an explosion at the front door and it sent him flying back onto the grass," she said.

Fire crews confirmed that at least one person was sent to hospital, for assessment and smoke inhalation.

Cambridge Fire Department (CFD) investigators were on scene trying to determine the cause of the fire and estimate damages to be around $350,000.

One additional unit has been displaced due to water damage.
