Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for tonight into Wednesday morning for much of southern Ontario.

Wind chill values near -30C are expected, creating an increased risk of frostbite and hypothermia for anyone exposed for too long.

The agency warns that frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin in these temperatures, especially with wind chill.

Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors and those without proper shelter.

The Region of Waterloo has a warming centre set up in Cambridge as well as emergency shelters.

Remember if it's too cold for you to stay outside, it's too cold for your pet to stay outside.
