Food4Kids Waterloo Region set up a booth at the Hunger Forum back in May to educate those in attendance about its services.

The community will have the opportunity to learn more about a critical service that's helping feed students within the region on Sept. 14.

Food4Kids Waterloo Region is an organization that delivers healthy food bags to children aged one to 14 living with chronic hunger. The service is provided to students on weekends and during school breaks throughout the academic year.

Celebrating seven years of community impact, donors, volunteers and supporters are welcome to come tour the facility in Kitchener located at 10 Washburn Dr. and learn more about various programs during an open house event.

Cali Dubois, program coordinator for Food4Kids Waterloo Region, says they often work closely with the Cambridge Food Bank to ensure the nutritional needs of children are being met.

“Everyone knows the Cambridge Food Bank but not everyone knows Food4Kids,” Dubois told CambridgeToday at a student Hunger Forum earlier this year at the Cambridge School of Architecture.

“The food bank helps us connect with families. If we can’t help them, we can connect them with the food bank.”

Roots of the organization date back to 2016 when a gap in student nutrition was recognized. The key to the service is supporting kids when they're not in school and can't access traditional nutrition programs.

Currently, it helps 22 schools and roughly 300 children in the city.

“When people see our logo we want them to be positive and know that we're an organization that's helping children," Dubois added.

The open house begins at 11 a.m. and wraps up at 5 p.m. and attendees are asked to RSVP.

The organization is also seeking volunteers as it gears up for the back-to-school season.
