Freezing rain, strong winds expected in Cambridge tomorrow morning

The freezing rain may cause ice build-up, which, combined with strong winds, could lead to local power outages, Environment Canada warns

Freezing rain warning in effect for:

  • Cambridge - Kitchener - Region of Waterloo

Freezing rain expected early Saturday morning.

Hazards:
A period of freezing rain leading to ice build-up.
Ice accretion of two to three mm possible.

Timing:
Early Saturday morning.

Discussion:
Freezing rain is forecast to begin early Saturday morning and may last for a few hours before transitioning over to rain as temperatures rise above zero. Ice accretion is not expected to be significant.

In addition to the potential for freezing rain, strong winds gusting up to 70 or 80 km/h are also expected Saturday morning into Saturday evening. The combination of strong winds and ice build-up may lead to local power outages.

Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break. Utility outages may occur.
