Heavy, blowing snow expected to transition to ice pellets

Environment Canada has updated its winter weather travel advisory for this afternoon and tonight as blowing snow blankets the region.

Snow and ice pellets, with total amounts near 5 cm are expected with peak snowfall rates of 2 to 4 centimetres per hour, particularly during the evening commute.

The snow will become mixed with ice pellets early this evening before transitioning to light snow near midnight. There is also a risk of freezing rain or freezing drizzle late this evening until early Tuesday morning.

The snow has arrived with strong easterly winds gusting up to 70 km/h.

Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.
