Robert Matthews picks up two $50,000 Daily Keno prizes in same draw

Robert Matthews of Waterloo sure knows how to pick ‘em.

Matthews' Daily Keno 9 Pick with two different tickets resulted in a total win worth $100,000 in the Feb. 25 evening draw. Each prize for each Daily Keno 9 Pick ticket was worth $50,000.

The 57-year-old truck driver is a regular lottery player and says he has had a couple of smaller lottery wins over the years but never a win as big as this.

“I chose my numbers based on family members’ birthdays and I can’t believe I won,” Matthews said at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto where he collected his winnings.

“I checked the tickets the morning after the draw on the OLG App and I was in shock, so I went to the store to double check that I won,” he said.

Matthews says the retailer was also in shock when "Big Winner" appeared on the lottery terminal screen. “When I got home and told my wife, she almost hit the ceiling!”

Matthews plans to pay some bills and invest in his retirement, the OLG said in a news release. “This win brings some financial freedom for me and my family,” he said.

The winning ticket was purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart in the Conestoga Mall on King Street in Waterloo.
