New creative studio and event space open for business in Galt

A new studio space for creatives that can double as a wedding venue is now open in Galt.

Local photographer Brandon Taylor was tired of having to go to a bigger city to find studio space.

If only there was somewhere closer he and creatives like him could work on their craft and run a business.

With that thought, he decided to take matters into his own hands.

“We love Toronto but it was frustrating to have to give this type of business out that way,” Taylor said.

“It’s important to have spaces for creatives in the city. We saw a huge lack of it in the area. My team and I started three years ago at different location, we build and design rentable photo studios. It’s really our space and your imagination. We built our brand around that.”

After three months of renovations to the old Ray Electric Limited building in Galt, Open Space Studios now calls the first two floors home.

The first floor is 625 square feet of naturally lit space. It’s a Tulum style studio with textured walls, a queen bed and minimal design.

The second floor is 1,750 square feet of naturally lit loft style space. It features textured walls, custom built ins and eight 10 foot windows.

“How we describe it is, we are a rentable natural light studio,” Taylor said.

“We’ve had teams in there filming commercials but most of it will be photographers hosting their own sessions. A lot of people don’t want to have to have their own studio space.”

Taylor co-owns the business with Tiffany Pacheco and Hilary Rigo. Two media content employees and a maintenance and sanitary staff round out their team.

While a lot of their business comes from creatives around the region and surrounding area, it’s not the only service the company provides.

“We’ve also done weddings,” Taylor said.

“It’s not a spot for a 200 person wedding but for the people who want to have an intimate wedding, we offer that.”

There’s something extra special to be able to combine a passion and provide a service to the city Taylor has called home since he was nine years old.

“It means a lot to be from Cambridge and have a business in Cambridge,” he said

“I think to be able to make an impact and help creatives out and give them a space, we love that. We didn't have that growing up.”
