Artist Michelle Peraza and Cambridge Art Galleries invites the community to celebrate the opening of Repeating Granadas on Saturday, Jan. 20 at the Queen’s Square Gallery.

“Grounded in her personal experiences and her family’s oral histories, Michelle Peraza's work examines what it means to live in the margins, where no two experiences are alike,” explained Karly Boileau, exhibition curator. “Through painting and drawing, art becomes a way to navigate and try to make sense of the complexities of identity and of the world.”

Surrounded by glints of silver and gold, rich browns, patterns, and allegory, Michelle Peraza’s solo exhibition, Repeating Granadas, visualizes the ambiguity and complexity of identity within the LatinX community. Through her high-realism portraits, site-specific installations, and non-representation drawings, Peraza engages with themes of transculturation, postcolonialism, feminism, identity, extraction and relocation, image dissemination, gender politics, materiality, representation, and resilience.

The community is invited to a special opening event on Saturday, Jan. 20 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to tour the gallery, participate in an activity inspired by Peraza's work, and meet the artist. Repeating Granadas will be on display in the Queen’s Square Gallery, 1 North Square, Cambridge, from Jan. 20 to April 21.
