New LCBO in Cambridge officially open for business

A fifth LCBO location in Cambridge has opened and is the first in the city with a walk-in cooler

A new 8,000 square foot LCBO at the corner of Hespeler Road and Dunbar Road has opened its doors.

It becomes the fifth location of its kind in the city.

“The Cambridge community continues to grow and this will be our fifth store in the area,” a LCBO spokesperson said.

“We are pleased to be expanding to provide even greater access and service to local residents. With the customer experience and convenience in mind, we chose this location as it’s across the street from the Cambridge Centre, a place for shopping, dining and entertainment.”

Residents will have access to a selection of over 1,062 wines, spirits, beers, ready-to-make cocktails and coolers. In an attempt to support local, it carries 180 Ontario wines and employs 12 full-time staff.

The store is also the first in Cambridge to have a walk-in cooler area.

Alcohol retailers have been under scrutiny as of late after the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction (CCSA) released a report stating people should limit their consumption to no more than two drinks per week.

The LCBO says they support responsible consumption and have made efforts to appeal to all consumers.

“We’re committed to safe and informed consumption, which includes empowering customers to make responsible drinking choices,” the spokesperson said.

“We have available resources for Ontarians on lcbo.com that include the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse (CCSA) Low-Risk Alcohol Drinking Guidelines and programs and services offered by The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). In addition, our product assortment includes innovative options that are low in sugar, low or light in alcohol and non-alcohol."

The store will be open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
