The City of Cambridge is partnering with Kinbridge Community Association to present the annual Newcomer Connections event on March 11.

For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began, the event will be presented in-person and will aim to connect newcomers to their neighbours, while introducing them to services and programs available locally.

“Multiculturalism is one of Canada’s greatest strengths,” Mayor Jan Liggett said in a news release.

“Different views, experiences, beliefs and learning help to enrich the City of Cambridge. As humans, togetherness, and the feeling that we are part of something bigger, helps give meaning to our lives. Strong connections within the community motivate us to invest in our well-being and bring positive changes. We are both grateful and proud that you’ve chosen Cambridge as the place to build your future life. We hope your move here will prove to be both personally and professionally rewarding.”

The event will begin with a land acknowledgement to honour and thank our Indigenous communities. It will also feature live music, entertainment and various indoor and outdoor activities for residents of all ages.

Participants can also connect with local service providers, employers and community groups. The first 150 participants will receive gift bags and the chance to win a door prize.

Registration is not required, but space is limited. Translation in Arabic, Spanish, Farsi, Urdu, and Ukrainian will be provided. Residents can request accommodations and additional translation by contacting Yesenia at [email protected] or at 519-623-1340, ext. 4426.

The Cambridge Newcomer Outreach Program was launched in 2020 by the City of Cambridge in collaboration with the Kinbridge Community Association. The program was created through a settlement grant from Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada.

Kinbridge Community Association offers various programs and settlement services for newcomer older adults, 55 plus, and youth ages 15 - 29. The program strives to connect newcomers with services and support as they settle in the Cambridge area.
