WEST REGION HEADQUARTERS — Travellers took advantage of decent weather for the last long weekend of the summer and members of Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were there to make sure everyone got where they were going safely.

The results from the Labour Day long weekend traffic campaign are now available. 2021 figures are in parentheses.

  • Impaired Driving: 39 (24)
  • Speeding: 941 (953)
  • Distracted/Inattentive Driving: 9 (16)
  • Failure to Wear a Seat Belt: 62 (27)

Police wish to remind drivers that so far in 2022, 36 people have died on OPP-patrolled roads in seat belt-related fatal crashes across the province. In the past 10 years, 542 people have died in seat belt-related fatal collisions in Ontario. It only takes a few seconds to buckle up. A properly worn seat belt greatly increases your chances of surviving a motor vehicle collision.

Police also advise that no amount of alcohol or drugs in your system is safe when driving.  If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it.
