Community safety town hall part two coming Sept. 18

Regional staff and representatives from the Waterloo Region Police Service will be in Cambridge to hear safety concerns from the community for part two of a town hall series put on by the City of Cambridge.

The second part of the safety town hall series will be taking place at Cambridge City Hall on Sept. 18. starting at 6 p.m.

The panel for the meeting will include City of Cambridge officials like Mayor Jan Liggett and various city councillors as well as staff members from Waterloo Region.

"We aim to hear from as many people as possible, so please be prepared and respectful with your questions," said the mayor's office in a social media post.

From 6 p.m. to 6:20 p.m. the region, city and police will make a short presentation then open the floor up to questions from the public. Seating will be available for 250 people, with standing room for an additional 50.

The meeting will run until 8 p.m. or until there are no more questions.

This is the second meeting in a two part series around community safety concerns in Cambridge. The first session took place on July 13 with most of the questions revolving around the encampment that was previously at 150 Main St.

With powerful and emotional questions and comments from residents, city officials were unable to answer most of the questions regarding the camp as it was on regional property.

Although the camp is no longer at 150 Main St., the region and police who were not present at the first meeting, will be on hand to answer any questions regarding housing and policing in the city.

Those who are interested in asking questions, sharing stories or voicing opinions are asked to do so respectfully. No ticket or registration are required to attend.
