The City of Cambridge has completed the pedestrian crossover on Speedsville Road at the Mill Run Trail.

Volume and the speed of traffic along the road last year prompted concerns from hikers and cyclists.

The city assessed the trail crossing using Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM) criteria and concluded that based on the number of crossings by trail users and the volume of traffic on Speedsville Road that the installation of a pedestrian crossover is warranted.

Pedestrians have the right-of-way and drivers and cyclists must stop until the crossing is clear.

The crossover is also equipped with rapid flashing beacons that can be activated by being pushed for increased visibility.

Cyclists using the crossover must get off their bike and walk across.

The cost of the work was pegged at $112,000 and was approved as part of the city's 2023 capital program.
