Kitchener South-Hespeler MPP Jess Dixon shares a laugh with Premier Doug Ford during his stop at Four Fathers Brewing in Cambridge in December 2022.

The Cambridge Chamber of Commerce will welcome Ontario Premier Doug Ford to its 100th anniversary luncheon April 19.

Tapestry Hall will host the noon hour event which will offer 100 guests an opportunity to meet the premier while he's in the area.

Chamber president and CEO Greg Durocher said a formal speech from Ford won't be in the offing. He's there mainly to congratulate the chamber of commerce for 100 years of service to the community.

Durocher said the chamber got lucky when they asked the premier's office if he would be available, and the timing worked out for the appearance since Ford was scheduled to be in the area next week.

"We're going to try and give him an opportunity to meet people there," Durocher said.

Various other events taking place this spring and in the fall will be themed around the chamber's 100th anniversary.

The Cambridge Chamber of Commerce was established in 1973, on the heels of the city's and region's amalgamation and was formed through a merger of two chambers in Galt and Preston with the Hespeler Merchants' Association.

The Galt Board of Trade, formed on April 4, 1924, marking this year as the 100th year a unified organization has been in place to support the local business community.

Tickets for the April 19 luncheon are $75 for members.
