Region reports one new death, 86 new COVID-19 cases Thursday

On Nov. 24 the Alberta government announced new COVID-19 rules for the province, including strict province-wide limits on indoor gatherings.

The region is reporting one new COVID-19-related death today; a woman in her 60s. The local death toll now sits at 409.

According to the latest data, hospitalizations have gone down to 57, with 8 patients in intensive care with COVID.

The health department reported 86 new cases Thursday, down from 104 Wednesday. That brings the overall total to 45,103. The resolved case rate is 96.9 per cent.

The active caseload is up to 962.

In terms of variants of concern, the region's dashboard shows 553 of those cases (95.2 per cent) have been linked to the Omicron variant since March 20.

86 per cent of residents five and over in Waterloo Region are now fully vaccinated. Over 1.32 million doses have been administered to local residents, including over 297,000 third doses. 56 per cent of those 12 and over have received a third dose.

54.6 per cent of children between 5 and 11 have received at least one dose. 40.3 are fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the province reported 3,560 new cases Thursday.
