Regional paramedics honoured with Governor General medals

The medals signify accomplishments of paramedics who have provided at least 20 years of exemplary service distinguished by high standards of conduct, industry and efficiency

Five Region of Waterloo paramedics have been awarded the 2023 Governor General’s Emergency Medical Services Exemplary Service Medal.

The medal celebrates the accomplishments of paramedics who have provided at least 20 years of exemplary service distinguished by high standards of conduct, industry and efficiency. At least 10 of the years of service must have been on duty in the field, involving potential risk to the individual.

The following Region of Waterloo paramedics were honoured:

  • Ali Gough, operations superintendent
  • Wendy Kukuric, advanced care paramedic
  • Linda Malcolm, advanced care paramedic
  • Alex Manson, advanced care paramedic
  • Mike Martin, commander/acting deputy chief

Ali Gough was also recognized with a First Bar Award, recognizing an additional 10 years of service.

The awards were presented at the Ontario Association of Paramedic Chiefs’ Annual General Meeting on Sept. 28, 2023.

“Paramedics are on the frontlines of our community saving lives, and helping us age and grow. Congratulations and thank you to our outstanding paramedics for their years of dedication and service,” said Karen Redman, Chair, Regional Municipality of Waterloo.

“The EMS Exemplary Service Medal recognizes paramedics who demonstrate exemplary service and have served their community and their patients with dedication, professionalism, and pride. Every day, our paramedics provide caring and compassionate service to the region and all five medal recipients are excellent representatives of Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services,” said John Riches, Chief of Paramedic Services, Region of Waterloo Public Health and Paramedic Services
