Kids in Cambridge are being given a rare and early opportunity to beat the heat as the temperature is expected to soar well over 30 C.

To ensure that residents have safe spaces to get relief from today’s sweltering conditions, the City of Cambridge has opened up the Riverside Park spray pad early this year and is operating Tuesday (May 25) from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The city says additional splash pads will begin to open starting June 2 as maintenance of the facilities are completed and staffing schedules are ramped up.

It's anticipated that all 10 spray pads in Cambridge will be operational by June 7, which is one week earlier than normal years.

Residents are reminded that provincial gathering limits and physical distancing expectations remain in effect at all city parks facilities.
