Latin music on Queen Street is one of many events that has taken advantage of the Hespeler street closure since 2021.

The 2023 patio season kicks off in Downtown Cambridge and Hespeler Village, in May and June signaling the beginning of warm, sunny days ahead.

The City, in partnership with the BIAs, will close a street in two of our cores areas to create safe, pedestrian-friendly spaces that all community members can enjoy.  The closures include a section of Main Street in the downtown and a section of Queen Street in Hespeler Village.

The following streets will be closed to vehicles:

  • Main St. (Ainslie St. to Water St.) in Galt Friday, May 19 - Monday, October 9 (Thanksgiving Monday) - seven days a week.
  • Queen St. E. (Guelph Ave. to Tannery St.) in Hespeler Village Friday, June 2 - Sunday, October 1. Weekends only. Closures will begin each Friday at 4 p.m. and end on Sunday at 9 p.m.

The Seasonal Road Closure Program was first introduced in 2020. In fall 2022, the City sought public feedback on the program and received an overwhelmingly positive response in favour of continuing them.

Going forward, Council approved funds to support the Seasonal Road Closures each year as budget permits.
