The Waterloo Regional Police have closed a section of George Street North due to a collision.

A Kitchener woman was seriously injured in a crash that shut down George Street for several hours Saturday.

Emergency crews were called to the single vehicle crash near Blair Road at around 7:30 a.m.

Waterloo Regional Police believe a Suzuki Vitara was heading west when it left the road and struck a tree.

The 26-year-old driver was taken to an out-of-region hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are still investigating but say charges are pending.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Traffic Services Unit at 519-570-9777, extension 8856.

George Street has now reopened to traffic.
