Shelter Movers, a national, volunteer-powered charitable organization providing free moving and storage services for those fleeing abuse, has launched its "Get Your Move On" Volunteer Recruitment Campaign.

The need for our service is high in Waterloo Region as the Waterloo Regional Police service received nearly 6,200 calls related to intimate-partner violence in 2022.

"We urgently need volunteers to provide our service to members of the community."

"I have seen the tremendous demand for our services, particularly during our busiest month on record in May 2023. As we head into the busy summer moving season, we find ourselves in urgent need of volunteers to continue to provide our service to members of our community," said Sarah Duncan, operations manager at Shelter Movers Waterloo.

"By joining our mission, you will play a vital role in removing barriers for survivors of gender-based violence, enabling them to transition to safe places and embark on a new chapter in their lives. The opportunity to witness first-hand the profound positive change you can make is incredibly rewarding!"

With one in three women experiencing some form of physical or sexual violence in their lifetime, our mission to create safer communities is more crucial than ever. Since our inception, Shelter Movers has assisted volunteers who have completed more than 6,000 moves for survivors of abuse.

Volunteering with Shelter movers offers a unique opportunity to bond with friends, family, or colleagues, while also meeting new, like-minded individuals committed to making a difference.

Volunteers who enjoy physical activity and contributing to overall fitness and wellness will be rewarded by the experience.

It's also a chance to gain new skills and experiences that will enrich your resume. Volunteering hours can also be used to fulfill school or work requirements.

"Experience the joy and fulfillment that comes from helping others, giving back, and supporting a cause you believe in."
