Virtual walk aims to raise money and support for the Cambridge Shelter

The Cambridge Shelter Corporation is once again putting out the call to the community to help them raise money for the only permanent men's shelter in the region.

A virtual walk and fundraiser has been started to get Cambridge residents active while helping raise money for a good cause.

"Challenge yourself to Walk to Change the Conversation about homelessness. This virtual challenge highlights the importance of getting involved in a cause you care about," wrote the shelter on its fundraiser page.

The Bridges is the only emergency men's shelter in the city and serves hundreds of people a day. According to the shelter, using a “housing first” model, The Bridges focuses on helping individuals overcome the barriers that hamper their move to appropriate and permanent housing.

"Your help is critical as we work to address the many issues confronting individuals experiencing homelessness in our community," they said.

There are several walks currently taking place to join and participants also have the option to create their own walk as an individual or a team.

Currently, three teams have joined raising just over $5,000 of the shelter's $10k goal.

The fundraiser will run for the entire month of May.

Participants are encouraged to raise at least $100 and this will earn them a $10 gift card as a thank you.
