The event is family-friendly and features three different running and walking routes.

Residents are being encouraged to strap on their running shoes or walking boots to help in the protection of land in Waterloo Region and Wellington County on Sept. 17.

The Trail Party's Walk & Run for rare Charitable Research Reserve aims to raise funds for environmentally sensitive land to help ensure a viable future.

The event is part of the Turn the Map Green campaign where every $2 raised protects one square metre of land.

Participants can choose from three different routes ranging from a five kilometre run to a 3.5 kilometre walk.

The five kilometre run goes from the rare Eco Centre on Blair Road to a designated turnaround spot.

For those looking for views of cliffs and the Grand River, the four kilometre walk includes various rare side trails.

Anyone wanting to walk with children or dogs can explore the 3.5 kilometre walk as it’s ideal for strollers.

Registration for the event includes a barbecue lunch and drinks, interpretive education stations, live music and entertainment along the route and an event t-shirt if registered before Sept. 2

Cost to take part is $25 or a commitment to raise $50. Kids 12 and under are free.
