Trailer drops for Richard Gere movie filmed in Galt, Kitchener

The movie Longing is set to be released in theatres June 7
Richard Gere prepares for his scene on the Main Street Bridge in downtown Galt in October 2022.

The trailer for the Richard Gere film Longing was released yesterday on YouTube and the two-minute preview features at least three recognizable views of downtown Galt, where part of the movie was filmed.

Gere was in Cambridge and Kitchener for about a week in October 2022 to film scenes for the film. The Walper Hotel in Kitchener was also used as a location.

The Internet Movie Data Base describes the film as an English adaptation of Israeli film "Ga'agua" from writer director Savi Gabizon.

The film follows Gere, who plays Daniel, as he discovers he has a long lost son with an old ex-girlfriend in Canada. He learns his son has died in a tragic accident and tries to learn about his life through those closest to him.

"As he explores his dead son's life and gets to know him vicariously through those closest to him, Daniel is forced to evaluate the life choices that have led him to this crossroad," reads the IMDB summary.

The trailer begins with a shot everyone in Cambridge will recognize, a view over the river from the Park Hill Road bridge to the Main Street bridge.

The two bridges feature prominently in other scenes, one in which Gere and another actor are seen walking over the Main Street bridge.
