Two new COVID-related deaths reported in region Friday

The local health department switched to just reporting the data on Tuesdays and Fridays

Region of Waterloo Public Health reported two new COVID-related deaths on Friday afternoon. The local death toll is now 417.

117 new COVID-19 cases were also confirmed over the last three days. This week, the local health department switched to just providing the data on Tuesdays and Fridays.

There have been 46,263 local cases since March 2020. The resolved case rate is 98 per cent.

Hospitalizations have increased by six to 46. Seven patients are in intensive care with COVID.

The active caseload is down to 454.

In terms of variants of concern, the region's dashboard shows 303 of those cases (97.1 per cent) have been linked to the Omicron variant since April 17.

86.2 per cent of residents five and over in Waterloo Region are now fully vaccinated. Over 1.34 million doses have been administered to local residents, including over 300,000 third doses. 51.6 per cent of those 12 and over have received a third dose.

54.3 per cent of children between 5 and 11 have received at least one dose. 40.7 are fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the province reported 1,412 new cases Friday.
