The WRPS has released a list of safety tips to help ensure Halloween is safe and fun for everyone

Planning your route and staying on the sidewalk are important to having a safe Halloween.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service is reminding people to exercise safety precautions when out trick-or-treating tonight.

Residents should plan their routes and remain on the sidewalk while going door-to-door. Carrying a flashlight and wearing reflective clothing can help motorists when driving and costumes should fit properly to prevent trips and falls.

For those handing out candy, turning on outdoor lights and keeping pathways to the front door clear can mitigate hazards and accidents.

Instead of using flame lit candles in decorations, alternatives such as battery operated candles and flashlights can be used.

Pets should also be kept inside and away from trick-or-treaters.

Finally, when arriving home, make sure to inspect all candy before consuming.
