'We're at an exciting crossroads:' Mayor Kathryn McGarry first to announce bid for re-election

Cambridge Kathryn McGarry is looking to lead the community for another four years

Cambridge Mayor Kathryn McGarry is eyeing another term as she throws her name in the hat for this year's upcoming election.

McGarry submitted her bid for mayor yesterday on the first day of nominations and said she looks forward to continuing to serve the residents of Cambridge for another four years.

One thing she is very excited about is place-making, the idea of creating more spaces throughout the city that members of the community can come together and enjoy.

“I think we're at an exciting crossroads right now where we are attracting all kinds of activities. These things coming to Cambridge is really proof that we are an excellent location and we are an excellent municipality to bring these kinds of new, exciting adventures to,” said McGarry

Cambridge is seeing more development than ever and McGarry wants to continue being a part of building the city and bringing in new sectors and industries.

She wants to grow the tech industry in Cambridge and have more spaces for startups to compete with neighbouring cities like Kitchener and Waterloo.

“Some of the people working at these tech companies in Kitchener and Waterloo live in Cambridge. How amazing would it be if we could keep those jobs here?” she said.

Nominations for mayor and city council are now open and close on August 19. Cambridge residents can cast their votes on election day, October 24.

As of Tuesday morning, no other candidates for council had registered, although many had said they plan on running again
