It's going to be a busy fall for the YWCA Cambridge.

The organization, which offers programs and services for cis and trans women, girls, non-binary and two-spirit individuals in the community, has three marquee events coming in September and October.

First up is the internationally recognized Take Back the Night walk on Sept. 21 to honour survivors of sexual assault and gender-based violence.

Members of the community gather at 6 p.m. and take to the streets in a rally of support. It's part of YWCA Cambridge's advocacy and commitment to equity, the elimination of gender-based violence and the creation of safer communities for all.

"Take Back the Night, for us, is a powerful opportunity to recognize survivors of sexual and gender-based violence, to celebrate them and to support them,” Kate Taylor, director of programs told CambridgeToday prior to the 2022 walk.

“Its about that community connection, welcoming people back to our space, getting that awareness out there again and letting people know that we are still here.”

From Sept. 22 to 24, the Women’s International Gift and Gallery is hosting a three day pop-up shop with guest appearances by style icon Lynn Spence.

The shop is YWCA Cambridge's social enterprise that generates important funds to assist the organization in paying for programs and services for the community.

There will be great deals on brands like Bryn Walker, Sympli, Paolo Tricot, along with a fashion show.

Previously, WIGG had a brick and mortar location on Dickson Street but has been reduced to online sales and pop-up style events.

On Oct. 14, the Walk a Mile in Their Shoes event returns to raise awareness and funds to end gender-based violence.

The money raised supports YWCA Cambridge’s free violence prevention programming for girls and gender diverse youth across Waterloo Region. Planned for downtown Galt, residents and elected officials strap on red shoes and high heels. Registration is now open.

Last year the organization changed the name from Walk a Mile in Her Shoes to better reflect and recognize the impact violence has on 2SLGBTQ+ individuals.
