Cambridge native Kai Greaves has found his next hockey destination.

The 20-year-old defenceman announced his commitment to play for the Division I Princeton University Tigers over the weekend.

Currently in his second season with the Prince George Spruce Kings of the British Columbia Hockey League, Greaves has one assist through five games. During the 2022-2023 campaign he potted five goals and added 22 assists in 54 games to catch the eyes of the Tigers coaching staff.

As an Ivy League school, Princeton is widely considered one of the top universities in the United States.

“It’s a school where not only do you get a lot from the hockey side but also the education side of it, which is super important to me,” Greaves said in a press release on the Spruce Kings website.

During his U16 season with the Cambridge Hawks AAA team in 2018-2019, Greaves scored 10 goals and assisted on 19 others in 33 games while also suiting up for a pair of games for the Cambridge RedHawks. After the season the Barrie Colts selected him in the sixth round, 108th overall in the OHL draft.

Kai is the younger brother of goaltender Jet Greaves who made his National Hockey League debut last season for the Columbus Blue Jackets in a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
