The Cambridge Highlanders are getting ready for their second season.

Preparations are in full swing for the Cambridge Highlanders Jr. B lacrosse team's second season.

And now their schedule is set.

The Highlanders will open the season with four straight road games beginning April 21 in Elora against the Mohawks.

Stops in Wallaceburg, Windsor and St. Catharines follow before the team plays their home opener on May 10 versus the London Blue Devils.

They wrap up their regular season in Cambridge on June 16 against the St. Catharines Athletics.

Before the games begin to count toward the standings, they'll take part in an exhibition tournament against St. Catharines, Six Nations and Hamilton at Canada Games Park in Thorold.

After finishing their inaugural season with a 9-11 record, they were swept 3-0 in the first round of the playoffs by Elora.

Head coach Brady Campbell said he saw a lot of positives during the teams first season.

“To be honest I didn't know what to fully expect going into the season,” Campbell said after the team was eliminated.

“I can't complain for such a young roster. I think we exceeded expectations.”

He said at the time he expected a number of players to return and emphasized the importance of the offseason heading into 2024.

"It’s tough being a 16-year-old playing against 20 years olds,” Campbell said.

"Guys can get bigger, faster and stronger in the offseason. They also know my systems so it helps that I won’t have to reteach a lot of that to the returning guys.”
