Cambridge RedHawks forward recognized by Midwestern Conference

Tanner Bibby finished his final season of junior hockey with 77 points.

The Midwestern Conference of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League handed out its annual awards on Tuesday.

Cambridge Redhawks’ forward Tanner Bibby was awarded the Standard Life Insurance Trophy in recognition of his performance and sportsmanship.

The Redhawks’ captain scored 36 goals and added 41 assists to help lead his team to a third place finish during the regular season. His 77 points were good enough for second in the conference scoring race.

Bibby was also one of three forwards named to the Midwestern Conference All-Star team.

Former Cambridge Minor Hockey and current Kitchener-Waterloo Siskins netminder Nolan Chartrand, who was named the GOJHL’s Top Goaltender earlier this week, was also selected the the conference All-Star team.

Chartrand and teammate Nicholas Galda were awarded the Twin City Trophies Trophy for the best goaltending team average.

Chartrand posted a 1.94 goals against average and a .928 save percentage in 31 games, while Galda had a 2.75 GAA and an .898 save percentage in 12 games.

The Siskins will meet the Stratford Warriors in the Midwestern Conference final after defeating the Elmira Sugar Kings four games to two in their semi-final series.

Game 1 of the final is scheduled for March 30 at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex at 7:30 p.m.
