The Cambridge RedHawks opened the season with a win and a loss this past weekend.

The Cambridge RedHawks hit the road this week to take part in the annual Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League Showcase.

The tournament, held by the Elmira Sugar Kings, will see the RedHawks play a pair of games.

On Friday at 1:30 p.m. they'll face the Caledonia Corvairs at Jim McLeod Arena. After being off Saturday, they hit the ice again on Sunday at 5 p.m. against the Welland Canadians at Dan Snyder Arena.

The RedHawks opened their season last week with a win and a loss.

On Friday in Caledon, they scored a 5-2 win over the Bombers. Cambridge native Cameron Fries potted the eventual game winner on the powerplay late in the first period.

The team returned home on Saturday to welcome the Kitchener-Waterloo Siskins and couldn't overcome a 3-1 first period deficit in a 5-2 loss. Cambridge's Matt Fries had a goal, while Owen Yagar found the back of the net and assisted on Fries' marker.

The RedHawks return to Galt Arena Gardens on Sept. 30 to play the Elmira Sugar Kings.
