Cambridge southpaw Soucie finds new home at South Carolina

Cambridge native Jackson Soucie will head to the University of South Carolina after his sophomore season at Wabash Valley College is complete in 2024.

It's been a wild six months for Cambridge left-handed pitcher Jackson Soucie.

Back in June, his Wabash Valley Warriors came within one game of winning the National Junior College Athletic Association championship. Soucie came out of the bullpen and threw 4.2 innings in a 13-6 loss to the College of Central Florida.

Weeks later, he commitment to the University of Oregon but later reconsidered and decided to return to Wabash Valley for one more run at a national championship.

Then on Tuesday night, Soucie announced he has committed to University of South Carolina to continue his academic and athletic career. He'll head to Columbia following the 2024 season.

The Gamecocks play in the Division I Southeastern Conference, which many consider to be the best in all of college baseball. The SEC was represented by three of the eight teams in 2023 College World Series and produced the eventual champion in Louisiana State University.

Currently, there are three South Carolina alumni playing in the Major League Baseball postseason in left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery of the Texas Rangers, utility man Whit Merrifield of the Toronto Blue Jays and Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker.

Soucie finished the 2023 season 2-0 with a save and a 5.04 ERA. He struck out 37 in 25 innings.
