Cambridge's Fries brothers head RedHawks leadership group

Matt Fries will serve as the captain of the Cambridge RedHawks for the 2023-2024 season.

The Cambridge RedHawks will be Cambridge led as they try to get back to the top of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.

Before the beginning of the regular season last week the team announced their leadership group that includes a captain and three assistants.

Cambridge's Matt Fries was named captain with his younger brother Cameron being tabbed an assistant.

Matt, a forward, is playing in his third season with the RedHawks after suiting up in the Cambridge Minor Hockey system.

In his first two seasons he amassed 30 goals and added 52 assists for 82 points in 89 games. He was a member of the 2022 Cherrey Cup championship team.

Through two games this season he has a goal and an assist.

Cameron, also a forward, had nine goals and 10 assists in 39 games during his first full season with the RedHawks in 2022-2023. He scored the eventual game winner in the team's 5-2 season opening win in Caledon last Friday.

Forward Max Macerollo and defenceman Tyler Magoffin will serve as the other two assistant captains.

The RedHawks are taking part in the GOJHL Showcase tournament this weekend in Elmira with games against the Caledonia Corvairs and Welland Canadians. 

They return to Galt Arena Gardens on Sept. 30 to face the Elmira Sugar Kings.
