Cambridge RedHawks forward Matt Fries has been recognized for his commitment to the team.

The honours keep coming for Cambridge RedHawks forward Matt Fries even well after the final horn has sounded on the team's season.

Fries, a Cambridge native and team captain, has been named the winner of the Leroy Jamieson Memorial Trophy by the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.

The award recognizes a player's outstanding contribution to one team.

Fries' best offensive year came this past season when he broke the 50-point mark with 25 goals and 29 assists. His performance garnered him a spot on the Midwestern Conference All-Star Team.

Over the past three regular seasons with the RedHawks, Fries has been over a point-per-game player. In 131 games, he's scored 55 goals and registered 81 assists for 136 points.

He also added eight goals and six assists in 27 playoff games.

During the 2021-2022, he was named to the GOJHL Top Prospects Roster.

With the season now complete after a first round series loss to the Elmira Sugar Kings, the RedHawks are in preparation mode for the 2024-2025 season.

The team's prospects camp is scheduled for May 25 and 26.

Details on registration will be released in the coming weeks.
